The mission of the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) is to promote the design and construction of metal building systems in the low-rise, non-residential building marketplace.
MBMA was founded in 1956 to serve the metal building systems industry. From 13 original members it has grown to include over 40 metal building systems manufacturers and over 50 associate members. MBMA’s membership represents more than $1.9 billion in annual steel shipments and accounts for approximately 39% of the total non-residential low-rise construction market in the United States.
MBMA provides engineering leadership through the many research programs that it sponsors annually, often in coordination with major engineering schools and research universities throughout North America. This research is used to improve the performance, efficiency and quality of metal building systems and to elevate the technology used to produce them.
Metal building systems are used in almost every conceivable application. They are found in industrial applications such as complex production facilities, warehouses and distribution centers. They are used in retail stores, shopping centers, motels, automobile dealerships, office complexes, airplane hangers and arenas. Metal building systems are also used in schools, libraries, churches, medical facilites and government buildings.
Since its inception, MBMA has contributed significantly to the design community by producing technical publications to assist in the proper design and specification of metal building and roofing systems. The organization has also consistently promoted the benefits of metal building systems to architects, building code officials, community planning consultants and other construction professionals.
MBMA's major publications include the Metal Building Systems Manual, Energy Design Guide for Metal Building Systems, Metal Roofing Design Guide and the Seismic Design Guide for Metal Building Systems. These publications are available for purchase at this website. For additional information on the latest news and technical information from the metal building industry, please visit
